DISTRICT Arts is pleased to announce “TRANSITIONS,” a featured artist exhibition that showcases the oil paintings of Jan McIntyre-Creager.

As with Jan’s work over the span of her career she is still heavily influenced by light and shadow working on the shapes that architecture provides. In the last couple of years she has added to her work the concept of upheaval in the lives of those experiencing personal trauma.  Inspired by an old birdcage she has produced environments that emote fear and unrest as well as coming to calm or a feeling of release as in the paintings “After the Storm”, “Catharsis” and “Release”.

While broadening the scope of her concepts, artifacts along with elements of memory are used to symbolize emotions brought on by changes we all go through in our lives. The paintings “Mama’s Dresser” and “In the Attic” use elements from memory to portray thoughts of the past.

For Jan the process of working through a painting from the initial concept to finished piece usually includes sketches, photography, making stencils and rubbings.  While going through these steps to realize a painting, new ideas are always percolating.

The exhibition will open on January 2, 2020 and closes on January 26, 2020.  An opening reception with the artist will take place on Saturday, January 4, 2020 from 5 p.m.-7 p.m.

All artworks are available for purchase.
