Lori Niland Rounds creates encaustic monotypes using a process that is a unique combination of painting and printmaking. Colors immediately come to life as encaustic wax turns molten on contact with a heated plate. The wax dances and flows across the surface as it continues to react to the heat. A piece of archival paper is then placed on top of the plate, and the molten wax is immediately absorbed into the paper. The outcome is unique and unpredictable, with the final product always being a mirror image of what was originally painted onto the surface of the metal plate.”

“When I am not in my studio creating art, I can be found observing art in one of the many galleries and museums in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. The more I create art, the more joy I find in my everyday life!”
Lori has continued to advance her artistic skills by studying under Santa Fe based encaustic artist Paula Roland. In 2016, Lori was honored to have one of her paintings selected by CBS Studios to appear on the CBS Sunday Morning Show. In January, 2018, she was honored to have one of her works selected for an exhibit at MOMA in NYC.
