DISTRICT Arts, a contemporary art gallery located on Market Street in historic downtown Frederick, MD, is pleased to present “HAVE BRUSH, WILL TRAVEL, small watercolor paintings from the travels of Margaret Huddy.

“Sketch everything and keep your curiosity fresh” said the great American painter John Singer Sargent.  Margaret Huddy follows this rule wherever in the world she goes.  Huddy and her husband love to travel the world.  Armed with a miniature watercolor box, travel size brushes, a spiral bound watercolor sketchbook for Margaret, and a book for her husband, Norman, they stop at outdoor cafes, park benches, on a moving train or on a rock by a mountain stream.   In twenty to thirty minutes she completes a small watercolor painting while he reads.  Not only are the finished works far superior to a photograph but also allows them to slow down and really see a place, absorb the color and atmosphere, as well as often meeting the local people.   Margaret will be showing a collection of these small, original watercolors at District Arts from April 11-May 3, 2020.

An opening reception with the artist will take place on Saturday, April 11, 2020 from 5 – 7pm. The reception is free and open to the public, and will feature light hors d’oeuvres. The exhibition runs from April 9 to May 3, 2020, during which works by the other gallery artists will remain on display.
