Important News from DISTRICT Arts - We've Retired!
Dear valued artists, patrons and supporters,
After five years of proudly showcasing incredibly diverse and inspiring works of art, we made the difficult decision to close our doors. Our last day was May 5, 2024 and we turned the keys over to the landlord on May 31.
This decision was not made lightly. For the past five years, we devoted every day to presenting the works of a group of the finest contemporary artists we have the pleasure of knowing. We want to express our deepest gratitude to all the artists who have entrusted us with their creations and also to our loyal customers who have supported us throughout the years.
This was not a financial decision. Frederick adopted DISTRICT Arts in ways that we couldn't possibly have imagined when we first opened our doors. Running an art gallery is always a crap-shoot. Happily, Frederick responded to our efforts in the most amazing ways. We made wonderful new friends, sold a lot of unbelievably brilliant art, and had a lot of laughs and precious moments along the way. That's what makes this decision so hard. The realities of aging, combined with the desire to do some traveling and spend more time with grand-kids, lead us to this decision.
As George Costanza once famously said, "Leave on a high note." Of course he also said, "I would drape myself in velvet if it were socially acceptable." We choose to leave on a high note.
We are immensely proud of the vibrant community that flourished within our walls, and we are grateful for the memories, connections and friendships that were forged here. While this chapter has come to a close, we remain committed to supporting the arts in Frederick in any way we can.
Thank you for being a part of our journey.
Warm regards, Staci and Bill McLauchlan, DISTRICT Arts
