Contemporary Art in the Historic District

Important News from DISTRICT Arts.

Dear Valued Artists, Patrons, and Supporters,

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the closure of DISTRICT Arts.  After five years of proudly showcasing incredibly diverse and inspiring works of art, we have made the difficult decision to close our doors.  Our last day will be May 5, 2024.

This decision was not made lightly.  For the past five years, we have devoted every day to presenting the works of a group of the finest contemporary artists we have the pleasure of knowing.  We want to express our deepest gratitude to all the artists who have entrusted us with their creations and also to our loyal customers who have supported us throughout the years.

This is not a financial decision.  Frederick has adopted DISTRICT Arts in ways that we couldn't possibly have imagined when we first opened our doors.  Running an art gallery is always a crapshoot.  Happily, Frederick responded to our efforts in the most amazing ways.  We have made wonderful new friends, sold a lot of unbelievably brilliant art, and had a lot of laughs and precious moments along the way.   That's what makes this decision so hard.  The realities of aging, combined with the desire to do some traveling and spend more time with grandkids, has lead us to this decision.

As George Costanza famously once said, "Leave on a high note."  Of course, he also said, "I would drape myself in velvet if it were socially acceptable."  We choose to leave on a high note.

As we wind down operations, we invite you to take advantage of our final days to explore our remaining collection and perhaps find that perfect piece to add to your home.

Also, please join us on Saturday, May 4 from 5 to 7pm for a closing reception.  A number of artists will be here, and you can chat with them about their plans after DISTRICT Arts.  As always, canapés and sparkling beverages will be served!

We are immensely proud of the vibrant community that has flourished within our walls, and we are grateful for the memories, connections and friendships that have been forged here. While this chapter is coming to a close, we remain committed to supporting the arts in Frederick in any way we can.

Thank you for being a part of our journey.

Warm regards,

Staci and Bill McLauchlan, DISTRICT Arts
